While former Phil Hulett and Friends podcast sports guy Karlo Sy Su freezes to the bone in Chicago, the public battle to replace him has hit a fever pitch and will be decided tomorrow (Thursday, January 9, 2014).
After a lengthy audition process that included several candidates submitting recorded sports reports, three replacement-hopefuls remain. The online voting finished at midnight, and after about 5500 total votes, things can’t be any closer. Only a handful of votes separate the first and second place vote-getters. (See the final tally and watch video of each contestant performing live on the podcast here).
American School of Radio Broadcasting student, Nick Wright marshaled his fellow students, friends and family to give Mt. San Antonio College Radio Student, Chris Martin a run for his money. Danny Saldana, who is as qualified as the other two was apparently asleep on the job and barely registered a blip on the radar. But, the popular vote ultimately only counts as one vote, so, Danny still has a shot.
Here’s how it will work: On tomorrow’s edition of Phil Hulett and Friends, Phil, Jennifer Bjorklund, Jay Campadonia and Executive Producer Mike Stark each get a vote. Add the popular vote for a total of 5 votes. If no candidate get 3 or more votes, provided on of the four team members voted for the odd man out, he or she will abandon that vote and break the tie. If one contestant only receives the nod from the popular vote, then that contestant is dropped from the race, and Karlo Sy Su will defrost his iPhone and break the tie from his chilly apartment in Chicago.
Once we pick the winner, he’ll have to get right to work on his first sports report which will come up in the second half of tomorrow’ episode of the podcast. (By the way, you should subscribe, it’s available on iTunes and all the usual places. Try this link: RSS Feed.
